The purpose of the Environmental Health Risk Assessment is to provide an  objective scientific assessment of whether unflued gas heaters in NSW schools should be replaced with alternative heating types. The scope of works also included consideration of the timeframe for replacement, and  what alternative heating options would be suitable. The primary reason for the project is to assess the significance of the health effects to school children that may result from exposure to unflued gas heaters.
